Bacterial Vaginosis

BV or Bacterial Vaginosis is a condition where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disturbed and replaced by an overgrowth of a certain bacteria. Signs include, odor, pain, discharge, burning or itching.

The development of this kind of condition is when there is an imbalance between the bacteria that are normally found in the vagina. This is possible when there is an increase in harmful bacteria.

There are activities or behaviors that disrupt the normal balance of the bacteria that can risk the women’s health.

  • Douching
  • Having a new sex partner or multiple sex partners

What are the signs and symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?

-Abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor.
-Strong fish-like odor.
-Gray or White Discharge
-Burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both.

However, most women with BV report no signs or symptoms at all.
