Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria. Individuals at a high risk includes, sexually active persons and others having multiple partners.

Symptoms

As many as 1 in 4 men with chlamydia have no symptoms. In men, chlamydia may produce symptoms similar to gonorrhea. Symptoms may include:

  • Rectal discharge or pain
  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Testicular tenderness or pain
  • Discharge from the penis or rectum

30 % of women suffering from this disease have no symptoms, but if they do it includes the following:

  • Vaginal discharge
  • Rectal pain or discharge
  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Symptoms of PID, salpingitis, liver inflammation similar to hepatitis
  • Painful sexual intercourse
